Why Adopt from LCCR?
Adopting a rescued kitty is a very rewarding experience. Loving Care Cat Rescue works hard to place those kitties in its care with loving adopters who will provide a stable, caring, and permanent home. If you have the capacity to commit to providing a forever home for a kitty who, through no fault of its own, fell on hard times, we look forward to working with you to find the perfect match for you and your family.
Throughout the year, LCCR hosts adoption events at various locations. It is possible to do a meet & greet and adopt at the event, but the application submission and initial screening process must be completed prior to the event. Each kitty’s foster parent renders final approval of same-day adoptions.
You can review our available kitties on Petfinder and apply for a specific kitty, or you can submit a general application. On the application you can indicate the traits you are looking for. As a foster-based program, all rescues live with their caregivers, giving the fosters plenty of experience with their personalities and allowing them to make a good recommendation. All LCCR cats and kittens are:
- socialized in foster homes
- given age-appropriate vaccines
- dewormed
- treated for fleas
- FeLV/FIV tested
- microchipped
- spayed/neutered
All applicants must be screened and approved by the foster before taking a cat home.
Adoption process:
Our multi-step process ensures that our cats are placed in appropriate forever homes. This is accomplished with measures designed to ensure a suitable match for each family and an environment in which the kitty can thrive and grow. Each application is reviewed on an individual basis. Please take your time filling out our application and answer all the questions completely. This helps to ensure the application can be quickly reviewed and processed for approval. An applicant’s living situation, pet and veterinary history, and references will be verified and are key aspects of our review process.
Guidelines For Approval:
To ensure we place our kitties in homes where they can thrive, all applicants must meet the following criteria:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Applicants who have owned pets in the past 5 years must provide a current veterinarian’s phone number and give permission for an LCCR representative to review records with that vet. They must also contact their veterinarians to authorize release of information to Loving Care Cat Rescue.
- Guardianship arrangements are required for all adopters. As 2020 taught us, life can be unpredictable. To ensure your new family member will always have a safe and loving home, we will ask you to provide the name of a caregiver who will be responsible for your adopted pet should you become unable to care for it.
- Visit our list of adoption guidelines here.
After approval:
Upon approval, a member of the applications management team will send an email informing you about the next steps in the adoption process. Typically, this means connecting with the kitty’s foster parent for a meet & greet and, potentially, completing the adoption. An adoption requires the adopter to complete an agreement and pay the adoption donation. The foster parent will review the kitty’s medical history and other relevant information and provide copies of all records and documents prior to the adopter taking the kitty home.
Approved applicants must bring a carrier to take their new kitty home. While LCCR provides adopters with all vet records, it is the adopter’s responsibility to follow through on any unfinished veterinary care like booster vaccines. As age-appropriate, all kitties are given at least one FVRCP booster and a rabies vaccine. FVRCP boosters are given 2-4 weeks apart, meaning a kitten may need a vaccine within a month of adoption. Other vaccinations, such as FeLV, are not administered by LCCR.
